Wearables. It’s a nasty marketing word you’re going to hear over and over again during the course of the next 12 months. Samsung with the Gear. Google with Glass. The Pebble. And as of today, the LG Lifeband Touch. Now some of you will call me out and say that this isn’t a smart watch, but I disagree. The Lifeband has an AMOLED screen that shows you the time. It also displays your phone’s notifications. And you can use the Lifeband to control the music on your smartphone. Does that not, by the accepted definition of a smart watch, deserve to be called a smart watch?

Now for the important questions: When will this thing come out? No one at LG is saying anything. How much will it cost? No one at LG is saying anything. Which phones will it work with? No one at LG is saying anything. Seeing the trend here? Now granted, the first day of CES doesn’t technically kick off for another 24 hours, and maybe we’ll have answers then, but then why issue a press release?

Anyway, don’t expect the Lifeband Touch to be the only “wearable” to be announced this year. Rumor has it that there’s going to be a second generation Galaxy Gear, second generation Pebble, Samsung is going to make a fitness tracker, and let’s also not forget the never ending rumors about the Google Watch, Apple Watch, Nike Watch, and the list just goes on and on.
